The optimist looks up and loses his footing.
After crossing into the state of Tennessee, the survivors were at their last end, having been walking for nearly two days after their last vehicle ran out of gas. One survivor mentioned that they had been the way before and had visited the Warrior's Path State Park years before with family. They also mention that the possibility to make camp and settle down for a bit was there since the state park is set upon a small island. Plus the nearby neighborhoods would provide opportunities for looting. So the group all decides to head off of their path towards the state park in hopes of better circumstances.
Being a Southeastern state, Virginia used to be filled with so much history, not only housing America's Capital, but also having been one of the original thirteen colonies. Now Virginia is acquiring new history, one filled with much grief and despair.

Tennessee is a landlocked state in the south. Its once thriving capital city Nashville was the heart of country music. Now it really doesn't have a heart. Filled with beautiful forest landscapes in it's south eastern region, this oblong state includes The Great Smokey Mountains.
A southeastern state whose terrain spans coastal beaches, farmland and mountains. Capital city Atlanta was once swarming with the dead. After time has elapsed since the outbreak, one has to wonder if the condition of hoards still remains, or if most of the dead have wandered outside of the capital city's limits.

With half the population dead there are are thousands of empty homes. Most have been burned to the ground, but others remain. If you're looking for a place to call home break into one of these houses and you're set. Be careful. Dead are likely inside.
